Philips Juicers and how to chose them

Philips HR 1861 Pro Aluminium Juicer

Philips HR 1861 Pro-Aluminium JuicerThe Philips HR 1861 Pro Aluminium Juicer is a 700 W centrifugal juicer which demonstrates some of best design around. It is a stylish appliance which is able to quickly and easily make wonderful tasting fresh juices, regardless of whether you're using fresh vegetables or fresh fruit. (Although I suggest you don't try bananas in it - too mushy.)

The advantages of a Philips Juicer are the wide feed tube which saves you time cutting your food into smaller pieces as is required when using other types of equipment, and the raw speed at which these juicers work. It really turns what used to be a chore into the work of a few minutes.

Even washing up afterward is simply a case of throwing away the pulp and giving the items a quick wash, or simpler still putting them in the dishwasher.

Differences between the Philips HR 1861 Pro Aluminium Juicer and the HR 1865 Juicer

Diagram of feed tube sizes for Philips HR 1861 and HR 1865 Juicers The Philips 1861 Juicer is currently the best deal around among the Philips juicers. It is cheaper than the 1865 model but has very few differences. The main one is the size of the feed tube. On the 1861 it is 75mm and on the 1865 it is 83mm. I've included a diagram which will allow you to see what the difference in feed tube diameters looks like. The inner circle is the 1861, the outer is the 1865. I was going to do something like add an apple to give an even better sense of scale, but of course apples come in different sizes. I will say that in practice the HR 1861 has no problems taking small apples whole, but will not take large apples unless they are cut into 3 or 4 pieces first.

Choosing between the HR 1861 and HR 1865 comes down to the following differences between them:

Philips HR 1865 Juicer Larger Feed Tube 1. The HR 1861 has a 75mm wide clear acrylic feed tube.
Philips HR 1861 Speed Control 2.The HR 1861 has a two speed control with markings on the side to indicate low or high speed as I or II.

Pound Sign 4. The Philips HR 1861 is cheaper than the HR 1865 - around £13-£14. Whether this is important is up to you of course.

Buying your Philips HR 1861 Juicer

Glasses of fresh juice Having reviewed the prices for these machines in various places, including Philip's own web site, the high street retailers and so on, I've found the cheapest supplier is currently Amazon. One of the factors is that they include delivery costs in the price. (I was surprised to find Amazon selling things other than books, but given their strong reputation for quality service and fast delivery I'm happy to recommend them.)

Because prices change I've decided to include Amazon links to both juicers on this page so you can see the price difference at a glance. Make your choice and click the appropriate picture to purchase. (Incidentally don't be fooled by the images showing a jug with one and a glass with the other - both come with the jug.)
